Saw someone on TikTok say this was originally meant to be a Disney+ show and they cut it up into a movie. Haven't seen anything confirming that but it did feel a little Disney+ish
This movie follows the same formulaic plot as the first one, just adds some new characters. I see a lot of people saying the soundtrack is bad, and it's definitely not as good as the first one, but it wasn't terrible. You can definitely feel the lack of Lin-Manuel Miranda on the songs.
Movie's also short AF. When we got the end I looked at my watch and the movie had only been running an hour and twenty minutes
After Wicked and Gladiator last week, I definitely don't need another 2.5 hour movie, but its brevity really makes me buy that this was supposed to be a show. That's basically four episodes of a TV show, and it felt like this movie was the first arc of a show, and the mid-credits scene was supposed to set up the second arc.
I actually would like to see a Moana TV show tho. Since the plot of both movies have been "Moana has to leave the island to go do some other shyt," I would actually like them to do a show where they can flesh out a supporting cast and set up a status quo of the island. It would work even better after this movie now that they've introduced the wayfinding crew and
introduced people from other islands, which could set up trade and other conflicts between them[/ispoiler[
