I watched the game yesterday on mute while at a cookout.
It's nice to see this team get a lot of love in the city. But maybe I'm being ignorant... this team feels like the team for gentrifiers. Most ATL United fans I see (sans the black folks) have that look.
You're not being ignorant. It's a fair assessment. But, the gentrifiers are just like any town's bandwagoners. It is what it is. Ironically, a lot of the gentrifiers are now on Next Door bytching about the drastic tax assessment increases to their property values around the city, which they themselves caused.....fukk em
I was reminded once more about real Atlanta is on its way to being a lost cause on Friday night when we went to check out the new rooftop bar at the Clermont Hotel, Clermont Lounge building for those that know....That fleabag hotel is now a real hotel, with valet parking, renovated rooms and reception area, and a golf clubhouse type bar scene on the roof with great views of downtown ATL.... Gentrification will kill that whole neighborhood. Murder Kroger gone...Masquerade gone....Dugan's to become a Chick Fil A down the line...Clermont Hotel now upscale.....
There are far more true "football" folks at the games than the gentrifiers. There has been a robust non-pro league and pickup footie scene in and around Atlanta for many years. Atlanta is a very international metropolis, extending some 30-45 miles from downtown. Besides us (black American, Caribbean and African folks), there are many Latinos, Europeans and Asians here who love "football". Anyone who's been to the tailgates at Georgia Tech last season, or the gulch this season, knows what's up. We all try get along, even with the OTPs (outside the perimeter folks, I-285 for those who know) and their idiosyncrasies. We're even starting to see the sistas show up in force too.
My section is so diverse, it's Atlanta. I wasn't at the Pride game last week, but I imagine, no one cared. All are welcome as long as they're down for the ATL United.
