What are they using? High-density (HD) foams mixed with low-density (LD) foams or what.
I am guessing that they didn't want to weigh it down so they went with foams. That's how it is with hockey equipment. They've been replacing sections that used to be foam plus hard plastic outer shell, with just HD and LD foams to save weight. For real, I would design it with a carbon fiber/kevlar shell plus HD foams. I'd be like "It weighs a little more and is less protective that the other helmet.
