He can't heel right either since he constantly goes into comedy (both promos and in ring) and fans laugh at his shyt and play along with it because his whole gimmick is "lol he's a "real" heel". He's basically what Miz was doing for most of the past decade but with even more of a wink wink to it.
He's impressive the first time you see him (for me it was on MLW and I thought he was a lock for a future star) but it is diminishing returns every time you see him again as he does the same 80s/early 90s heel shtick every week and is trash in the ring to boot.

You don't have to watch much. You can come to this conclusion just from watching AEW alone.

I never got to mjf and his realistic heel work in my aew thread of the past.
duke has music that somehow stays in your head.
along with somehow becoming So condescending.
in the evolution of this character.
it is like watching the cartoon of lil bush and big boss baby come to life on screen.
dude has mastered on the indies how to pull of this gimmick like it is a shoot.
that sometimes i have to say, dammit it is a work.
that now on aew and we see it on national tv.
I gotta admit.
mjf has been damn good.
from being the most annoying heel leader of a stable on the indies.
from the completely obvious face swerve heel turn on cody to this point.
this shyt was a dope work.
especially how mjf re-counted.
how they arrived to him calling in and eviscerating bully's cohost via work of course.
here's to waiting on seeing mjf tonight.

as cody lacks the convincability to beat mjf ass like how it should be beat. You need a monster to beat mjf.
