Minneapolis police have arrested two of the three men who allegedly opened fire on protesters near the site of an ongoing Black Lives Matter demonstration over the fatal police killing of an unarmed black man earlier this month.
A 23-year-old white man and a 32-year-old Hispanic man were taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon, Minneapolis police said in a series of statements.
Police are still searching for a third suspect, described in an earlier press release as white and male.
Five protesters were injured in the Monday night shooting at the Minneapolis police department’s 4th Precinct, where protesters have been conducting a sit-in since the shooting of 24-year-old Jamar Clark on 15 November. They were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The local Black Lives Matter chapter is organizing a march and protest for Tuesday afternoon, vowing not to be intimidated by the shootings.
“White supremacists attacked the #4thPrecinctShutDown in an act of domestic terrorism,” Black Lives Matter Minneapolis wrote on Facebook. “We need you here [on Tuesday]. We won’t be intimidated.”

Sign up for what? Law enforcement? This is systemic, from the top down. This myth of reshaping the system from within is more cowardly gibberish from people who never want to confront the reality that there is only one proven way of overturning oppressive systems. Violence. No other strategy has ever demonstrated comparable results. Do ya'll think history isn't replete with black people who thought they'd infiltrate the system and remodel it to our favor?
