I'm sorry. IDK if just cause I know the people I hang around, but...... life ain't that hard!

Not even on some brag shyt, but most of my friends have jobs. The ones who want them do. . And they live decently to very good. I think I have one friend who works at a bar. That's it, but even she lives good. I am not seeing the struggle in the midst. Many people have room mates just so they can save in the mean time, but it's not worse than that. It's not as great as the baby boomers of course, but I also don't think it's as hard as people make it out to be given all of the options we have now for career paths.

Apply yourself and make connections, life will be easy. :yeshrug:

...I don't know how you can look at those stats and not see that there is a larger issue at hand here than people simply not wanting it enough. You aren't the only driven person in the world. It's not simply a fight against yourself, there are people at the top that seek to protect and expand their wealth by marginalizing the working class and turning us into interchangeable tools of production. That's not something everyone can overcome individually.

And even then, all the are doing is promoting selfishness for the next generation. Everything in this American society is breaking down, even trust from our fellow neighbor. When people have that "I got mine, get your!" when visible opportunities are scarce, it only creates more animosity and disrespect.

Taking on debt is a bad decision and people should realize that. Doesn't make them a horrible person, but it was a bad decision. Especially if you don't really have a plan on how you're going to pay it back.

Taking on student loans is the only option for some people. Instead of telling kids not to take on student debt, let's look at why student debt is so high. Do you know if there is an actual economic justification for student loans being so high?

Let's look at the education system in other countries: Mexico is a country that's super poor and even they have a high quality system for higher education and it's free. When the government tried to bump up tuition costs, it led to a national strike by students and the government had to stand down. Even in richer countries like Germany and Finland the education is great and it's all free.

Instead of telling people to avoid student loans and dance around the issue, while the ruling class continues to rape us, we should be attacking it head on.

Some people act like the religious right when it comes to questioning why tuition is so damn high. The be on some "Shhhhhhh, you not suppose to question the institutions of higher learning" or some crap like that.

Like I said, governments/ businesses/ banks have more agency and rights than the citizens. We act like these institutions are above questioning. I just read about how the Supreme Court is going to rule on allowing businesses to have "religious choice", meaning if they agree that they do then these corporations will be able to force their employees to practice any religion they choose for them just to have employment :mindblown:

Yep. We're not realizing that this individualistic mindset is not going to help us in the long run. In the 19th century there were labor movements that fought against this very idea of blindly chasing wealth and only thinking about self. So for over a century the ruling class has been trying to push that agenda. Y'all gotta realize that our society will not change and progress under that mindset.

A lot of these posters in here are kissing so much ass from these companies and saying "they can do whatever they want to do and disrespect/ underpay employees because that is their business" are no better than the crooks that rob the poor. Even got broke people saying that unions no longer serve a purpose when unions build the middle class in America. :mindblown:

@Rawtid you also got to take into consideration the increasing cost of living, inflation, rising college tuition prices and other factors years & decades down the line to eventually think if it's worth it for your child. Personally, I would keep your options open.

I would only send my kid to college for a medical trade, a tech trade, or something in the sciences. If they wanted to go to college for art or fashion...they are completely on their own.

I do take that into account. College savings is apart of my investment strategy and I have about 13 years to invest. Honestly if I can't create an investment portfolio that will yield money for college plus the cost of inflation (and then some), I have a problem. My daughter receiving at least an undergrad is mandatory. When the time comes we will research what majors have high job placement and if she's not interested in one of those she will go for Business or Finance. I'm totally planning for this, it's not an afterthought.

Thinking debt is your only option is not a good way to think. I don't think that way anymore. :manny: Even if it sounds crazy or far-fetched, then so be it. Things can still get done without taking on debt or doing anything illegal.

I am sooo glad you mentioned this!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_UNAM_strike
The 1999 strike at the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico, the largest university in Latin America) had its origins in the January 1999 announcement by its rector that tuition would increase from about 0.02 dollars to about $150 a semester. A group of students declared a strike and blockaded the main campus. The blockade lasted 292 days, during which there were violent encounters with opposition groups and faculty, and the resignation of the rector and the appointment of a new one. Action by the recently created federal police ended the strike in February 2000.

shyt is discouraging sometimes but there's still some examples of students and other groups getting together to successfully fight back against some of this bulslhit.

I don't konw if y'all heard about those Quebec student protests last year, but they were fighting a tuition increase (from $2000~ to $4000~) and they were able to get the govt to shut that shyt down :wow:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Quebec_student_protests

The 2012 Quebec student protests were a series of student demonstrations led by student unions such as the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec and their supporters against a proposal by the Quebec Cabinet, headed by Liberal Premier Jean Charest, to raise university tuition from $2,168 to $3,793 between 2012 and 2018

Left-wing groups endorsed the student protests, which evolved into generalized demonstrations against the provincial government. Opposition parties (Parti Québécois, Québec solidaire, Option nationale), workers unions (Confédération des syndicats nationaux, Canadian Union of Public Employees) and many "fringe" groups have demonstrated alongside the students in April and May 2012.[4]

In the Fall of 2012, with a new school term beginning, student participation in the strikes and demonstrations dwindled. The leftist, Quebec nationalist Parti Quebecois was later elected as minority government and halted any tuition increases in line with a campaign promise.[5]

:banderas:

If this problem with wage inequality in America is related to the students at all, it would have to do with us not being proactive enough in bringing the fight to the govts

LMAO! she'll still have plenty of life left to plan for herself once she gets a degree. I ain't doing no tripping off that. I'd rather her get a degree debt free and be mad at me than come knocking on my door at 25 needing to move back home because she needs to get on her feet.
