Some folks don't understand how big wrestling used to be. It wasn't abnormal to talk about wrestling with teachers, your pastor, the barber, etc. Much less everyone in school, your family and random folks on the street. Everybody knew Goldberg, Stone Cold, the Rock, DX, NWO, etc.

Basically, you were lame if you didn't watch wrestling back then. I don't think that will ever happen again. What a beautiful time to experience childhood.

I swear after 2008, most people I knew stopped watching wrestling (keep in mind I’m 21 and started watching in 04.) I remember going to school on a Monday talking to my PE teacher about the PPV the night before or whatever happened on Raw/SD. I remember some dude came to school with SvR 08 and everybody flipped their shyt.

Now when I was in HS there was still a few folks that watched wrestling, this one dude in my computer class was a Tyler Breeze stan back when he was in NXT :pachaha: I do remember a lot of people talking about Taker’s streak breaking after it happened too.

Damn breh :wow: these kids don't know what its like to grow up with wrestling being cool :wow: I wore an Austin 3:16 shirt to school and everyone was :gladbron: I'll never forget that day a kid got stabbed that afternoon and they took away all of our trips and activities that year. :martin:

these kids today don't even have any cool wwe merch :hhh: that fakkit balor club shirt :hhh:

Breh, I wore an NWO Wolfpack t-shirt I copped from Homage a few weeks back. People were asking me what NWO stood for and when I told them it was a wrestling group back in the 90's, the were like "Oh, what Stone Cold or The Rock a part of it?" :snoop:

Greased up half naked in shape men that aren't acting gay. Not hard to believe girls watched it too.

Yeah, people seemed to get more and more low key about it after a time. I can't personally recall when the shift happened but more and more folks started to talk less and less about it.

There were sporadic moments of interest from folks, Punk's promo on the stage, Taker's streak ending, etc but it wasn't the same level of universal interest and fandom.

It was such a bubble of time that it's almost amazing to think about. The fact that everyone was watching the same thing, from friends to celebrities. The fact that you could talk about it everywhere. It was crazy.

A friend of mine who's jamaican told me back in the late 90s when he first came over here from JA all his people used to be at this one crib. The dude who owned the crib used to clear out his schedule every monday night just to make sure he caught Nitro & Raw. There was no DVR, social media or youtube/hulu back then so if he couldn't see it live he missed it period and would be angry as fukk :mjlol:

Wrestling really was the hottest thing on the planet during that time, completely transcended race, gender, age, etc... everyone watched. I'm glad I witnessed it as a kid :wow:

Only 90s Pro Wrestling can get a suburban white kid to raise his fist in the crowd in solidarity with a militant pro black faction.

I doubt she even knows DX. She just rocking it cuz of the "Suck It". Same reason Dej Loaf rocked it.

It's not like when rappers/celebs/ball players rock NWO or Austin 3:16 shirts.
Mike Tyson had a storyline with DX breh...He was a big reason WWF pulled ahead of WCW...Kevin Nash even admits that.

shyt had WWF on Sportscenter..

I remember going to the store with my mom and saw they had wrestling keychains..

It was GoldBerg and Stone Cold...some random old white guy was

"Nah Steve Austin is cooler!:smugfavre:"...

As a 28yr old breh I noticed once WCW fell the popularity kinda waned, then Rock, and Austin leaving...before then it was cool to watch even if you weren't a hardcore fan...

Once WWF changed to WWE was the turning point it felt like..the changed to TNN, the champ and the program started to focus on some white dude rapping with a spinner belt :bryan:

I've heard people say the Benoit murders had something to do with it but wrestling really stopped being a big deal WAY before that..

No disrespect young breh but you missed the golden years :wow:

I can’t even explain how real shyt was. You HAD to have watched Raw and/or Nitro the night before or you didn’t have shyt to talk about :wow:

We wore the most inappropriate shirts and someone got written up every other day for telling someone to suck it or hitting someone with the stunner :wow:

Every neighborhood had a backyard wrestling federation :wow:

I’m blessed to have lived through this, Michael Jackson and the Jordan Bulls live :to:
