Memo to Browns new owner: When you tell fans it’s your goal to bring a Lombardi to Cleveland, this isn’t what they were expecting.

Lombardi isn't the GM.

He's the VP of player personnel.

Joe Banner will hold more weight when it comes to the decision making.

Jimmy Haslem: "I know we've got the best possible person to be GM and very pleased to have Mike as our GM"

Banner will wield significant power in personnel decisions. Neither he nor Lombardi would reveal who has final say on the drafting, signing and trading of players. Still, Banner is expected to act as the ultimate authority, considering Haslam announced on Oct. 16 that football operations would report to Banner.

New VP of player personnel Michael Lombardi insists he's changed, ready for second shot with Browns - Cleveland Browns - Ohio

Yeah we're gonna have to get another pass rusher, maybe 2 if we move Sheard inside but fukk it, Chud likes the 3-4 also so if we were gonna switch anyway might as well bring in someone like Horton. Phil Taylor is a perfect NT for this D though.

We're playing a hybrid defense. Some plays we'll be 3-4, some plays we'll be 4-3, etc. That's the style Chud wants to run with but i'm glad we're bringing in Horton.

Not sold on Lombardi & I would've been cool if we kept Heckert as well but i'll let it play out for the time being. He handled the press conference well

Ya but Base will be 3-4 right?

As to Lombardi. I don't think it is that bad of a hire. If he can bring over the Pats draft grading system(He helped Build it with Belichick), and revamp the scouting department. It might be alright.

Plus Lombardi will not be making personal decision in a vacuum. Banner will have input along with the scouting department. It will not be like just talking shyt on TV..

So are you guys going to give the Pats a 1 or 2 for Mallet? :smugdraper:

I'm assuming the base would be 3-4 considering we have Horton as our DC but I could see us working out of the 4-3 the first year until personnel met areas of need for the hybrid to truly be successful.

I haven't like Lombardi for a long time but him stepping up to the podium today (sitting) when our reporters were basically telling him he sucked & how him and Jimmy (owner) would address it... He said i've grown in all areas & I agree he hasn't been horrible over the stretch of his stops but I can only say we'll see.

As far as Mallett goes, i'm no scout by any stretch but I had Mallet as the second highest QB after Newton. Obviously we see what Newton has done (still don't like him but I can't discredit him), Kaep, & Dalton.

I think we're gonna give Weeden a shot with an offense perfectly suited for him with Norv as OC but if there's no improvement, Mallett could be the way out.

Browns don't have a 2nd round pick. Gave it up in the supplemental draft for Josh Gordon.

And Mallet can stay put.
