Damn. This shouldn't be surprising given how MS did their own in-house studios. I don't know why people thought this was going to be any different. They're going to mismanage them like they do with everything.

This sucks for Tango. They were one of the bright spots. I guess the "they will thrive under MS' ownership" turned out to be bullshyt.

Microsoft is reportedly pleased with the success of Hi-Fi Rush, and the software giant plans to reinvest in developer Tango Gameworks.

Speaking during the latest episode of Game Mess Decides, host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his game industry insight, mentioned hearing that Microsoft is extremely happy with Tango Gameworks to the point where the software giant is looking to reinvest in it. He added that Microsoft cares a lot about the studio having a bright future.

They were working on a JRPG weren't they?

I've said it before, but everything changed once Satya changed his bonus from Gamepass subscribers to performacne base on revenue. Once that happened the gloves were off and "Microsoft" decided to take over the operation. Right now people are losing jobs due to Phil, Greeberg and Booty's incompentence. If they were any good at their job. Then xbox sales would be better and they wouldn't be in this mess.

Phil made the gamepass gamble and failed because the only way for gamepass to work was growth and hitting certain targets. However, Phil and his cronies' incompetence made growth stagnate and not reach targets, which is why they're going multiplat. Other than white privilege, I have no clue how these guys are still in charge because if I were Nadella I would kick those bozos to the curb and get somebody competent to turn it around.

This game was shadow dropped. What reasonable expectations did they have of this game that weren't met?

And then think about Arkane Austin they were basically forced into making a GAAS title, then half the studio were so upset about the entire thing they left and the remaining devs were actively hoping Microsoft would come in and cancel it. Not only did they not cancel it but they essentially ignored the problems it was having while positioning it as a major tentpole release.

I think they promised to have this year's COD on gamepass, but they'll pull day one gamepass after they fulfil current promises like COD and Indiana Jones. THey're going to def send a press release next year about changing how gamepass works and it will be more like PS+ Extra. They still might launch some games, but the big games won't be there imo

This ain't charity. The people who run these companies have a responsibility to the shareholders to drive these companies to profitable stuff. This is the entertainment world and plenty of companies that do quality work get shuttered and plenty of quality works get cancelled. Point blank every quality work doesn't catch on with audiences.

Look at any other large publisher in gaming and they're laying off people and closing studios. Microsoft isn't unique here.
It doesn't have to be a charity. These companies need to stop being so greedy. They need to stop chasing after the short-term profits/infinite growth model. Cut executive pay and bonus packages for once, stop using money to buyback stock, and retain your workers if you're really committed to them like you claim.
