I never realized the Flight Sim series was on Xbox but I should have had enough sense to know that. Kind of makes me want an Xbox now...

to simulate flight... and something like this game with this amount of data and the entire world being mapped is a huge tech demo. so what. still like tech and how it could/should be used in other open world games involving the world.

I wonder if this could potential be the segway into Microsoft AAAA Studio concept.
Like, think about the possibility if microsoft figures out how to port the cities and landscapes for developers to use on there on own projects.
I know some people left rockstar(Houser and Benz) and one of them has their own studio(Benz) and both of them were pretty influential behind GTA. Microsoft could also scavenge some of the people from CD Project Red(who I think they were planning on buying). I think then you have a team that could make something that goes toe-to-toe with GTA.

Development of Grand Theft Auto V - Wikipedia
^^^^ in that link it says GTA had to take a quarter of million picture just to design GTA.

yes its possible.
now will devs be willing to go there? you have to remember when the kinect came thru, most devs could not come up with real ideas on how to use it other than gimmicks. i'm talking AAA dev teams. They just dismissed it as a gimmick rather than use their brains to come up with something innovative. They could see all this data and the entire map of the globe just being another gimmick in certain games. you will get that same old tired line "I would rather make a smaller world that we can make sure our artists give great detail to over a larger map size." And its not that these games have to use the ENTIRE globe. They could easily use countries, States, etc. Even if they made the cities look futuristic or old school. they could still use the data that shows where homes are built, vs where business are built. no more needing to look at pictures to try an get your team to put things in their proper place. just use all that bing data.

not really. they're not competing with something like this. at least not yet. They were competing with the old MS flight sim games and word on the street is they surpassed them since MS tried to go in a different direction with their last installment prior to this new one.

But no one is competing with THIS. X plane has a video talking about this new game as well. You can clearly hear it in their voices they know what this is. Its as if big bro just woke up from a long sleep and said its time to stop playing with little bro. and he just started backing him down in the paint, turn...dunk. turn...dunk. turn dunk.

Well the original question was regarding the series. X Plane is the closest competitor to the series, with Prepar3d and DCS following, but the latter two seem more focused on military aircraft rather than GA or Commercial crafts. In regards to this specific game, if the achieve everything they're trying to, there will be no competitor like you said. X Plane is going to have to go back to the drawing board. They probably won't be able to compete in terms of world size and detail, so they'll need to make sure their flight and weather models are superior. That'll be more important to the die hard simmers than graphical fidelity, which is what's going to draw a new player base. They're already going to be in trouble because FSX addons supposedly will work in the new iteration. If the game is easily accessible with the Xbox controller it's going to be a wrap.

not trying to start something, but what's the point of these games?

I don't think folks here genuinely care for flight sims. This shyt has only pique their interest because of the cutting edge graphics. Doubt they'll play this shyt for more than 10 minutes.
