Nice little cherry-picked comparison - Jordan had ONE great "all-around" season where he averaged more than 1 rebound and nearly 2 assists better than any other season. Even playing in a much slower era, Lebron's best 10 all-around seasons all look better (outside of scoring) than Jordan's 2nd-best season.
And Jordan's one great statistical season was 1989, the highest-paced season in the last 30 years (20 more possessions/game than in the 2000s) and when Jordan was playing over 40 minutes/game.
Basketball Reference has a "per 100 possessions" stat.
Here's all of Jordan's seasons where he averaged over 6.0 in both rebounds and assists:
1989: 40/10/10
1990: 43/9/8
1993: 43/9/7
2002: 36/9/8
1991: 43/8/8
1992: 39/8/8
1995: 36/9/7
1985: 36/8/7
1988: 44/7/7
career: 40/8/7
And here are Lebron's:
2010: 40/10/12
2009: 41/11/10
2013: 38/11/10
2008: 40/10/10
2011: 36/10/10
2012: 38/11/9
2016: 36/11/9
2015: 36/9/11
2014: 38/10/9
2005: 34/9/9
2006: 39/9/8
2007: 35/9/8
2004: 28/7/8
career: 37/10/9
First of all, at 6'8 250lbs LeBron better be getting more rebounds. But lets take a look at the seasons from their respective ages of 21-29 and compare the stats:
While LeBron averaged more rebounds and assist than Jordan, in 1988 Jordan was asked to play pg (
Pippen hadn't come into his yet own - about 3 years away from that) in that year, Jordan averaged
32 ppg, 8 rebounds and 8 assist while playing 81 games (
no cramps).
My point? Jordan was more than capable of running an offense and grabbing boards...fortunately for him, Horace Grant and Pippen developed into great teammates - so he didn't have to take on as much - learning to pace and let others carry their own weight is as much as a skill as setting up a teammate for shot.
In other words: Jordan would have an easier time trying to play like LeBron (he proved it) than LeBron would have playing like Jordan...that crab dribble ain't gonna help LeBron put the ball through the hoop (
the object of the game) at the same astronomical rate as Jordan did.
From age 21-29 Jordan had
7 seasons (
all over 30ppg) where he led the league in scoring (
would have been 8 had it not been for the injury in 1986).
From age 21-29 LeBron had
1 season where he led the league in scoring - obviously he was busy getting more boards and dimes.
From age 21-29 Jordan had
three seasons where he led the NBA in steals (
88, 90, and 93) and every single season he recorded at least 2 steals per game - in
1987-88 Jordan also won defensive player of the year, the scoring title and the MVP in the same season - the only player in NBA history to do that - LeBron is NOT touching that season whatsoever.
From age 21-29 LeBron
never had a season where he hit the 2 steals per game mark.
From age 21-29 Jordan hit the 50% fg mark
6 times (
while leading the entire league in scoring)
From age 21-29 LeBron hit the 50% mark
5 times (
2 of those times came while playing alongside two stars from his same draft class - Bosh and Wade).
From age 21-29 Jordan shot over 80% from the free throw line every single year -
9 times (
3 of those times at 85%)
From age 21-29 LeBron
never shot 80%
I could keep going...but two last things...
Jordan's rebounding numbers were always considered excellent for a 2 guard and Jordan was waaaaay more clutch than LeBron has ever been or will ever be - and Jordan was more of an assassin and it's a shame that's something I can't exactly quantify for you...but anyone who has ever saw both players play in their primes knows exactly what I'm talking about.
