Cats were slandering this record and 90s Mike in the other thread (this dropped in '95), sor those of you who never even tried to listen to HIStory, here's a reminder. The lyricism is outstanding throughout and there isn't a single skippable track, dead ass. These are all the original tracks in order, he didn't make a video for all but listen to the ones he didn't make a video for as well. Lmao at "Mike was washed" or "making bad music" in the 90s...

The GOAT of all GOATs, gotdammit:

(Its extremely difficult to name a Top 5 or 10 Mike playlist, but this is a personal favorite and one of his very best to me):

(As a kid this one was a favorite because it features Biggie and it's the song that made me a Biggie fan, as I got a few years older I graduated to stanning BIG's work)...

(Also known as "What About Us", I thought that was the name of this song fir many years lol)...

All dope but people didn't want to hear Mike singing about shyt that was to real at that point.

Bruh I'm actually surprised that people even have a negative opinion of this record, it was huge when it dropped and I've never heard anything bad about it. I was only 6 when it came out, but it's been a quarter century, I've heard people say it isn't their favorite Mike album (it isn't mine, either), and for non-diehards or casual Mike listeners, I get if it isn't the style of Mike you like, the more commercial Mike that roped in casuals...

But I've literally NEVER heard anybody call this album trash or say Mike was irrelevant or even losing relevance in the 90s. He was STILL the biggest entertainer on the planet, despite the other shyt he dealt with, and the lyricism, production, everything about this record is fuego and a hell of a rebound from Dangerous (which wasn't ass, but by Mike standards is one of his weaker drops)...

Never heard no one call this a bad album. The only thing is I wish he woulda dropped the Disc 1 "greatest hits" joint separately after this, with tracks from this one. Disc 2 (the original drops) is more than strong enough to stand on its own...

Breh, that History tour was the biggest tour of the 90’s.

You Are Not Alone is one of his best selling singles of all time.
Earth Song and They Don’t Care About Us were huge world wide.

the negative shyt rarely had to with his overall music but more with the crazy allegations during those years (sleeping with kids, skin color)

Yeah this was when the rumors of him sleeping in the hyperbaric chamber or whatever came out, remember that shyt? I remember reading that shyt in like the National Inquirer or some shyt and they called him "Wacko Jacko" lol...

shyt always stuck with me but artistically in his craft, there is NOTHING bad to say about HIStory or 90s Mike. nikkas on here was literally saying he was losing relevance or washed lmao...

Everything he dropped in the 90’s was a hit; even b-side joints like Ghost and Blood on the Dance Floor was :ohlawd::ohlawd:

Out of all of MJ’s albums, HIStory is the album with the most skippable tracks.

The first 5 songs (“Scream,” “They Don’t Care About Us,” “Stranger In Moscow,” “This Time Around,” and “Earth Song”) are classic and timeless records.

Then after that is when I start skipping tracks. “Come Together” should have been cut, same with “Money” and “Little Susie.”

The rest are strong cuts but it should have been rearranged with the tracklist.

The album could have been up there with “Dangerous” IMO but there were one to many filler tracks.

If a lesser artist made this album, it would be considered a classic.

I love how raw this album sounds while still being really polished. Michael usually spent years on his albums but this one only took nine months. He was taking his anger out on almost every song. You can hear the paranoia and frustration throughout the entire album. Also, his vocal performances here are fantastic. He was pushing himself in the booth so you could feel every emotion. On some songs ("Scream," "Earth Song," "D.S.," "2 Bad"), he almost sounds possessed. :damn:

I agree with @Busby that the sequencing could have been rearranged. I always liked "Come Together," but I wonder why he put the song on this album when it was obviously meant for Bad. Also, I think most of the angrier tracks should be in the beginning, then you move to the softer ones, and you could mix it up after that. You could have "2 Bad," "You Are Not Alone," and "Earth Song" ending the album.
