Local library did an outdoor showing of Purple Rain. About 100-200 people showed up BYOB...on the library roof! That shyt was bar none the best movie experience I've ever had.

The fukked up thing is that he didn't even win that night. After his historic and record setting Grammy wins for Thriller. He was nominated in four categories for Bad and after performing sat in the front row and didn't win shyt. He was devastated for weeks...

Yeah I remember being like . Same shyt happened with Off The Wall. shyt went 8x platinum, shut down the rest of '79 and the early part of '80, and he only won best vocalist or some cheesy shyt like that. He said he felt ignored by his peers and that shyt hurt him bad. He swore to himself that they wouldn't be able to ignore his next album. Damn was he right. .

What's crazy is Thriller almost got scrapped. He said CBS put all kinds of pressure on him to finish the album, so they rushed and cut mad corners to get it done. When he and the execs sat down to listen to it, he started crying cuz it sounded like shyt, walked out and said fukk it, we're not releasing this shyt. Of course the cacs tried to tell him to remember his place, but in the end they knew he was right, so they went back to the studio and remixed the whole damn album.
