Probably because according to him he kept getting on Mike about his plastic surgery and abnormalities in general. But idk you acting like Quincy isn't a legend. It makes sense that at a certain point he did have an ego and probably felt more comfortable around yes men. I like mike but not a fan of the "do you like to climb trees" Mike.

However, creatively they weren't seeing eye to eye. Michael heard that New Jack Swing wave and was like so he threw him in the bushes to work with Teddy Riley.

Keep in mind, if it were up to Quincy Billie Jean wouldn't have been on the album. Further, Quincy was in favor of Starlight but MJ wanted it in the bushes felt it wasn't poppin enough.

Starlight eventually became Thriller.
