Dyson is great in doses. Over the years, he's become the "go-to" figure for bridging all gaps, but ignoring that at this point, he's still an elder far removed from the youth. But this is Drink Champs, this ain't Teen Summit. It's not the place for those kinds of conversations. They're going to let him ramble, which means he's going to go into his usual sermonesque-political talking points.
He wrote a book/collection in the 90's about hip-hop, semi-praising it as a form of oppression-created-struggle music. I never finished it, since it was more of a collection of think pieces than a narrative. That's what pretty much got him props in the hip-hop community. But from those clips, it appears that some of the opinions he had then, are not the same now.
