Keep this in mind when you think about Cuba it was the second to last country in the western hemisphere in slavery. Slavery ended in Cuba in 1886. So about 10 years after my great grandmother was born and she died in the early 90s.
You mean other than me being black and Cuban, been everywhere inside and outside of Cuba and around and in other Cubans houses at a minimum weekly basis prior to pandemic with no idea what your statement even means?

Let me clarify this.
Of course many Cubans down here have significant white admixture or are phenotypically white with direct European ancestry. What I’m referring to is “white” is the “traditional” Anglo speaking whites...similar to the distinctions that were made by them toward the Irish when they came here, before assimilating. As we know, despite their direct European lineage, they were still classified as “other” and looked down upon.
Cubans down here may look white, but their culture is far more toward Caribbean Latinos on the spectrum than the traditional whitebread American. A Cuban can pass, but as soon as the accent is heard or that last name is read, perceptions can differ negatively amongst the typical American white segment they are trying to endear themselves to. I’ve seen that repeatedly. That’s why I’ve seen a lot trying to overcompensate their whiteness, prop up their Spanish ancestry and take on right leaning tendencies harder...as well as look down upon other Latinos.
