Golden Boy Will Be Aggressive With Piracy of Canelo-Chavez PPV
By Miguel Rivera
Golden Boy President Eric Gomez confirms that his company has a plan in place to combat the widespread piracy of internet pay-per-view events.
On May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Golden Boy will be staging a major pay-per-view event where Mexican superstars Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will collide in a grudge match taking place at 164.5-pounds.
Since the mega pay-per-view between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in May 2015, which generated 4.6 million guys, not a single boxing pay-per-view has cracked the 1 million mark.
The last pay-per-view to get close to a million buys was Canelo's fight with Miguel Cotto in November 2015 - where the show generated around 900,000 buys.
Since that card, Canelo's fight from last May with Amir Khan was able to get near 500,000 buys - but every other boxing pay-per-view has fallen short of even that number.
In today's age of technology, fight promoters are not only worrying about streaming websites, they are also worrying about social media sites - like Facebook, Twitter and Instragram - which allow live streaming. In the last year, nearly every boxing pay-per-view could easily be found on social media with a few clicks.
Gomez admits the growing problem of internet piracy is a big concern for his company.
"The world is changing and there are ways to get events and it is something we are studying. Very soon there will be a change, we are digitally entering an era where everything is digital," said Gomez to Eduard Cauich.
"We are taking precautions, there are ways to fight that. We have security to fight that. I can not give you the details but we are worried that they are changing things [ in the way they steal events]."
"The UFC has done well with pay-per-view, despite the changes [in technology]. So when you have a fight with known names, with a very strong card, and a lot of emotion - it's the type of show that the sport of boxing needs."
"Sponsors are calling us more and more, it's a special fight for Mexico, everybody wants to see it. And in the United States it's becoming one of the most important fights in recent years."
I think it's doing over 1 million buys.
Nacho Wants Chavez To Use Lara, Mayweather Tactics on Canelo
By Miguel Rivera
Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain is worried that his newest fighter, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will revert back to his old style during the upcoming Mexican grudge fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
Their HBO Pay-Per-View showdown is scheduled for May 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. And there is a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds in place.
To prepare for this contest, Chavez Jr. hired Nacho to be his head trainer and also brought back conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia.
During their weeks of training at the Otomí Ceremonial Center in Mexico, Nacho has whipped Chavez Jr. into shape and fixed a lot of his mistakes.
The veteran trainer has a certain game plan in place, but fears that Chavez Jr. will decided to brawl it out instead of using his physical advantages, like reach.
He wants Chavez Jr. to use distance and boxing, similar to some of Canelo's past opponents like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Erislandy Lara - who both gave the Mexican fighter a world of trouble with their movement.
Chavez Jr. has heavy feet and likes to stand on the inside and trade, but Nacho has been working with him primarily on speed and using his legs and reach. He does not want Chavez Jr. to stand right in front of Canelo trading punches.
"My fear is that [Chavez Jr.] .... a certain moment [moment in the fight]... will leave [the game plan behind]. I would like to surprise [Canelo] somehow with different tactics and if we have to go forward, then we will have to go," Nacho told ESPN Deportes.
"We need to make [Canelo] lose the distance. When a fighter makes you lose the distance, sometimes you do not know what to do. With the Cuban left-hander [Erislandy Lara], [Canelo] was stumbling about and with Mayweather he was even worse, [and he's looked like that] with other fighters too. He looks [great] when the opponents stand right in front of him."
"[Chavez] likes to throw his punches and he is brave, he stays in there [on the inside], because his character dominates him and I want him to make another kind of fight. If we're going to try to surprise [Cnaleo], he'll need to come in with another type of fight and then change halfway. It will be necessary to test Canelo, but first let's try to do something different to see what the brains of Canelo are thinking."

Speaking of JMM, remember when that fool was drinking his own piss on some beneficial shyt? This old ass nikka nacho is sabotaging this shyt from the inside
Even JMM was saying nacho is wrong to act like he did N not want to leave the mountains N now this shyt
Nah breh it doesn't make sense. You can't turn Chavez into a defensive minded pure boxer overnight from an offensive minded brawler.
I don't like this strategy, I mean the strategy makes sense but they are not going to give Chavez Jr a decision.
Chavez should fight like he did pre Martinez and test that canelo chin.. This is going to be like when canelo strategy was to outbox Floyd, what a disaster that was.
