You cannot tell the difference between "Authentic" Mexican & Italian food vs. their generic versions.

I'm sorry.

:yeshrug:

You can tell the difference between authentic Chinese food vs. generic

You can tell the difference between authentic Indian food vs. generic

You can tell the difference between authentic Cajun food vs. generic

You can tell the difference between authentic Soul food vs. generic

You can tell the difference between authentic Caribbean food vs. generic

African, Southern, and the list goes on.

When it comes to Italian food, I've had "authentic" Italian and that shiit always tastes just like the bullshyt they serve at Olive Garden. It's hard to do anything different when 90% of your dishes is just Meat, Sauce, Cheese, & Pasta. You never hear people say, "Oh there's this Italian spot..." Nope. It's always just whatever Italian spot you see, will do.

Same kinda goes for Mexican. Not as much as Italian though. I've had "authentic" Mexican from hole in the wall Mom & Pop spots and even in Mexico, and it's not much different than what you get at many generic Mexican restaurants. There is some difference, but not anything major. Again it's hard to really do anything different when 90% of the dishes use the same ingredients. Meat, Cheese, Peppers, Tortillas.

If you're saying Olive Garden tastes the same as an authentic Italian restaurant you are bugging man. Olive Garden is full of sodium and preservatives. Italian restaurants use real tomato sauce (with real tomatoes), better pastas, etc.

Same with Mexican joints. The best way to tell is when white people buy a formerly authentic Mexican restaurant and start adding random bullshyt to the tacos.

I mean, I can understand the idea that ‘lasagna is lasagna’ to some people….but you can absolutely tell the difference in a basic sauce and slow cooked Bolognese ragu.

A lot of classic French, Italian and Mexican food is identified by its simplicity, so it sounds like your trying to compare shyt by spices used lol.

A Jack's pizza and a DiGiorno taste exactly the same. :troll:
Honestly all that shyt taste the same. I went to all these fancy pizza places in NYC and it all tasted the same.

I don't even care about taste anymore. I just get the cheapest healthy options I can find.

Italian in the United States is like Tex-Mex. It has elements of the old country but goes way beyond lasagna and spaghetti. Actual Italian has a lot more healthy/lightweight dishes that are good for you. The shyt you see folks eating on The Sopranos or Goodfellas is Americanized and heavy to accommodate what was available here.

Mexican? Unless you live in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona (maybe) and California, you're only getting variations of Tex-Mex unless it's some random spot that Mexicans or a chef created in your state/town. Cali tends to have a lot of coastal Mexican shyt.....they think that Texans don't have "real" Mexican food.

Cali doesn't realize that we have both Tex-Mex and Mex-Mex and we treat them like separate cuisines. Tex-Mex is one thing while Mex-Mex has Jaliscan, Sinaloan, Oaxcan etc., styles. Mexican is actually most similar to Chinese food...where you can get good Americanized and good authentic (brehs would probably like the spicy Szechuan the best).

This.

I grew up in south Texas and even San Antonio and further the quality and kind of Mexican food truly depreciates. Tbh I judge every Mexican place by their carne guisada…if they don’t get that right then they are bunk as far as I’m concerned.

For the most part places are Tex-mex, but there are quite a few places to go for a Mexican style meal, and there are also plenty of tiendas and meat markets where you can get the necessary ingredients if you’re into cooking. Although HEB does a decent job for the laymen.
