That’s the reason I gave you two examples of why the majority of them went South to the new border of Mexico rather than stay in the US
I understand some stayed - logically it doesn’t make sense for a group of people to go to war potentially losing their lives over land ... only to be defeated and then still staying in that same land and give up everything they fought for

Here’s an article that talks a little about what happened to the Mexicans here after the war with Mexico. It doesn’t get into numbers going back to Mexico but I’ve been in Texas all my life and I don’t remember learning about mass movements of mexicans across the new Mexican border. As they’d been here I’d imagine most of em felt pretty secure on the lands they’d lived on for generations when they learned the terms of the treaty. And then of course the white man did what he always does.

According to wiki almost 600 Mexicans was lynched from the beginning of the war until the late 1800’s
so again I still stand as far as most of them moved to Mexico and then came back when the US became more civilized
