If i can suggest, check out the Master Of Puppets Album. It was a culmination of their early thrash beginnings, and that album is really a kickass album. I would say out of early Metallica, that is the most accessible if you want to get a feel of their early stuff.
Edit: Just noticed I used the word album way too much.
I'm going to for that album for a second. Religion, Mental Health, Drug Abuse were addressed.
I'm not sure what song you listened too, but there is no wrong answer in my opinion. You have a camp of fans who gave up once Metallica got mainstream exposure. Black Album really skyrocketed them to the top. It's a good album, the production is top notch. But like any artists, they lose credibility with the "true fans" once they got popular and played on MTV and mainstream FM radio.
I don’t know much about Metallica but I can understand how some fans got pissed off about their sound. Going from the first couple songs you posted to the second is a big change. Went from metal to basically pop music
So after they went pop did they stay pop or did they go back to the original sound?Absolutely
I can't sit here and say I was happy that they went the pop route. They did follow the DIY ethos in the beginning , and I think the fact they went from unknowns to mega stars gave alot of those metal heads grief.

This is an old album, but I would say they did branch out sonically and tried some different things, but they did keep their roots

Breh, of course I heard MoP. I dig Metallica. I wouldn’t have made this thread if I didn’t.
Yeah it seems like by the time they dropped this they kinda lost themselves. The way the drums are mixed
they made a documentary about the making of this album, Some Kind Of Monster, thats a must watch for musical dysfunctionYeah it seems like by the time they dropped this they kinda lost themselves. The way the drums are mixed
"Ride The Lightning" my favorite. How you start an album like that
A classic through and through.
I don't fukk with any of the albums after "...and Justice For All." Maybe a few singles.
Their songs were also the most fun to play in guitar hero. Good times.
I didn’t bring up any of their discography. Just mentioned S&M 2 playing on TV.
No disrespect intended. Didn't see the part where you mentioned MoP in the first post
Music is about evolving and trying different things. I dig their recent stuff (even tracks off St. Anger).I don’t know much about Metallica but I can understand how some fans got pissed off about their sound.
