Saw this yesterday. Loved Ex Machina, thought the followup was ok, and this a few steps back from that. Concept goes off the rails in third act, from a solid, if very, very predictable and familiar set up. It doesn't really work well, but the concept I liked, and the performances. I thought a subtle nod to Rebecca du Maurier's "Jamaica Inn", with the Vicar character too, but that may be wrong.
The setting and build up is expertly done, tension, atmosphere, but everything never really comes together, and the final act is a misfire.
A pretty slight movie from a director, and writer who has made some brilliant films.
The husband story was well shot, but too tired by now, to have that subplot trauma backstory.
