Saw this yesterday. Loved Ex Machina, thought the followup was ok, and this a few steps back from that. Concept goes off the rails in third act, from a solid, if very, very predictable and familiar set up. It doesn't really work well, but the concept I liked, and the performances. I thought a subtle nod to Rebecca du Maurier's "Jamaica Inn", with the Vicar character too, but that may be wrong.

The setting and build up is expertly done, tension, atmosphere, but everything never really comes together, and the final act is a misfire.

A pretty slight movie from a director, and writer who has made some brilliant films.

The husband story was well shot, but too tired by now, to have that subplot trauma backstory.

Is this men aint ish the horror? Or the title just some clickbait? Trailers tell you nothing
I would compare it to something like Midsommar if you think that's horror
there's body mutilation but the overall reason for it is really strange and you never really find out why
It isn't horror like Scream, Halloween or Elmstreet

Could only really recommend this movie to a Garland devotee. it's not really worth much effort.

There's a great analysis and lots of theory about some of the symbolism on this reddit forum:

But basically, all of those men represented different forms of the same toxic masculinity (because most of them were played by the same actor) and toxic masculinity breeds more itself so that it can maintain the order and oppress women.

This film was :dahell: and usually, I'm all for the weird shyt. But this felt like a student filmmaker had gotten a budget and gone ham.

I did laugh at the moment
the vicar is trying to rape her with his split hand on her neck some woman in the screening legit screamed :mjlol:

The only win for me was picking up this Indian chick in my screening who was sitting in front of me

:lolbron:
