The only album that really shocked me hearing it the first time....I didnt had to grow on me...I liked it from the first listen...

I remember getting off school early that day...
I was gonna go straight home but the radio was talkin about stores were closing early due to the 9/11 attacks.
So when I got off I went straight to Spec's Music on Biscayne and 125th and copped the album.
Been bumpin that shyt for the last 17 years

For me, at the time it was Heart of the city...

The first Jay z album I ever had. Got it on bootleg in 8th grade from a kid I was cool with.
It's an iconic moment, but not an album I go back to.
back then, my favorite was maybe Momma Loves Me, now it's probably Never Change, those are probably the strongest two to me.
My Jay era, is his first 5 albums. He lost something and gained way more around 2001. His lyrics got a little too shaky when you are looking back in time, with all the perspective of twenty plus years. He lost that edge. His style shifted into a new era.
