Would be the only two matches to receive 5* in WWE history, if the profightdb database is accurate. But prior to 2017, when he started going over 5, it was pretty rare to get a 5*. For example, from 2000-2016, there was only 22 5* matches. Now he just hands out 5+* like it's halloween candy

Hes given a few NXT matches 5 stars (7 all in 2018 and 2019) but in terms of main roster he gave Bret vs Owen Summerslam 94, Austin vs Bret Mania 13, Shawn vs Razor at Mania 10, Shawn vs Taker in the first hell in the cell in 97 all 5 stars before Punk vs Cena.

WCW/JCP in the 80s and 90s were all matches involving Flair and or Steamboat (like more than 10) by the looks of it. TNA got one for a triple threat early in their history, ECW has one for Juvie vs Rey

Rest of Japan, AAA, UWF, CWF in the 80s, 90s

Only gave 5 in the 2000s lol

But yeah since 2012 its not really that exclusive and quite especially with New Japan. He says himself he doesnt know why people make a big deal about them and I think hes tried to be more generous but in doing so its mostly Japan still. But to be fair they're great

Meltzer rating Hogan-Rock 3 stars is all I ever needed to read from that dude. He does not see wrestling the same way I do. Moves and work rate are cool, but less can be more if the story and/or the crowd is right.

His scale goes from negative 5 to 5 so thats not bad. I'd give a 4.5 but man that match was all about the fans. Its one of the first matches I think of where I wish I was in the crowd for

2000s was kinda like the dark ages for American wrestling. If you didn't want to watch a watered down WWE product, since they generally lacked competition, you had to resort to TNA for a short window where it was good but overly reliant on old talent or buy DVDs/PPVs from the indies.

PRetty much has gone up to 6 since 2017 though. However, he has given out one 6.25 and one 7.0. What used to be a 5 star is like a 5.75 and above now, he's only given 14 of those since 2017. Last one was back in January when he gave Okada vs. Ospreay a 5.75

After he went above 5 stars I figured he was either jumping the shark or telling people (as he's gone on record as saying) it aint that seriois lol

Yup. I was kinda out of wrestling for the most part for the bulk of the 2000s (losing interest from 03 and kinda out end of 05 apart from watching an episode here or there until 2010)

I trailed of fnot long after WCW and ECW went under. I didn't get back into until sometime between 2007-2010 when my internship/graduate assistantship manager told me to check out some of the ROH DVDs he had. I got hooked to that for a while then was off and on with ROH, AEW, NXT (and briefly WWE after the Punk pipebomb) until whenever Punk debuted in AEW. AEW has been appointment TV for me ever since then

You should check out some ROH and PWG for indies and New Japan for the international big leagues. Laid a lot of the foundation for American major promotion wrestling going into the 2010s and 2020s. ROH put on the show that led to the birth of AEW. I haven't seen much PWG only because they don't do live PPVs.

The below who appear to be part of each companies weeklies and/or PPVs (someone correct me if I am wrong) all had extensive time in ROH, PWG, or NJPW before debuting or redebuting in AEW, WWE, or Impact (dark matches excluded)

In AEW: Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Brody King, Christopher Daniels, Danielson, Punk, Danhausen, Kingston, Ethan Page, Kazarian, Adam PAge, Lethal, Gresham, Keith Lee, Omega, Kyle O'Reilly, Young Bucks, Rush (I assume he will be featured a good bit going forward), Samoa Joe, Scorpio SKy, Brian Cage, Malaki Black, Pac, Penta, Fenix, Guevara, Andrade

In WWE/NXT: T-Bar, Shelton Benjamin, Rollins, Riddle, Owens, Damian Priest, Cody Rhodes, Ciampa, Cedric Alexander, Tozawa, Styles, Zayn, Ricochet, Viking Raiders, WALTER (aka Gunther), Roderick Strong, Cameron Grimes, Bobby Roode, MVP, Finn Balor, Nakamura, Drew McIntyre

In Impact: Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Doc Gallows, Eddie Edwards, The Briscoes, Josh Alexander, Karl Anderson, Kenny King, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, Moose, Rich Swann, Sami Callihan

It's crazy when you look at BOLA line ups from that era and it's the entire prime NXT/ROH/impact roster years later

Kid gloves

I hope he’s talking about a Lyft or a cab because the idea that people are jumping over each other to let a wasted/pilled up Jeff Hardy

jeff-hardy-american-professional-wrestler.gif

Into their vehicle and give him a ride is simply not based in reality.
