So I went to watch this combo montage:



and I notice it's uploaded by "Double Helix Games". So I'm like whoa, what the hell. I look them up and it appears they really are the developers for Killer Instinct (Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One | Polygon, Double Helix Games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Killer Instinct was announced during the E3 2013 Microsoft press conference. Made exclusively for the Xbox One, the new Killer Instinct is being developed by Double Helix, not Rare as the original was. No word on its release yet.

I bet it was an intellectual property deal more than anything else. Rare providing help, characters, guidance etc.

Rare might have 1 or 2 guys working with Double Helix or it could be a whole team. We'll probably never know.
