WHY would anyone want to use their old gen controller on a new system? The ONLY acceptable answer is the Gamecube controller for Smash Bros which is a good holy controller. Once this is out the DS4 is pretty much going on the drawer. This controller is superior in all ways.

The Xbox Elite controller is the best controller I've ever used. It should be the default on the Series X.

The Xbox controller is late to the party. They now getting a share button when PlayStation had it all gen. Lacking a gyroscope, speaker and audio feedback. Weak upgrade for a new generation. The series X feels like a mid gen refresh and not a new gen console.
