i only took issue with the "white" part. that's a complete misrepresentation....most of our queens are NOT white.

the harsh reality is that every pageant has some great looking, well spoken dark skinned girls who routinely get overlooked for a white or light skinned girl. Just look at the year Crosskill won. smh. Its sad but hey, more for me.

The way your phrase is set makes it look like light-skinned black is similar to white. Not saying that's what you said breh but it's just weird to draw a difference between light-skinned and dark-skinned. Both are black.

One of black people's problem which is not really adressed is the way WE draw a line ourselves between light and dark.
It's a shame because my mom had that problem with her mother like 40 years ago.
My mom who's west indian would be objectively considered "light-skinned" like really really light skinned. But her sis was "lighter-skinned". Therefore her sis was viewed as the "white" one and favoured by my grandma because she was supposedly the one who had more chances at life. And this made my mom the "black" one, who was the one doing all the housework and stuff and had to struggle to get hers while her sis had everything given to her.

We are segregating ourselves and we don't even know it. And that segregation keeps going and going and going. It existed back then and some of us are still perpetuating it today and will tomorrow.
Myself, I just hate these debates about complexions (you americans talk about races) because I feel like we won't effectively fight racism by using the same logic. Some people think the skin color makes the person and defines them definitely.
I believe that our existence precedes our essence and we should be defined by what we do and how we act more than by how we are born. And that's for every type of humans.

But then again, I'm not american and I can't blame the way americans think because I don't share the same history.

Long story short, a lot of slaves, transients and indentured workers were dropped off on Jamaica just like the blacks when Britain was running things. predominantly Germans, Irish, portuguese Chinese(LOTS of Chinese), Syrians, jews and a lot more undesirables from Europe and wherever were brought to Jamaica just like blacks and other Africans.

Jamaica was one of the first melting pots.....
