It actually started in the late 70's during the 'Disco Era' due to the sheer overproduction of straight coke.

The price dropped and dealers started cooking it up to concentrate it and sell it for a higher profit.

Before it was called crack it was referred to as Freebase. Back in the experimental 60's and 70's ppl were looking for ways to maximize their high and discovered the method. Richard Pryor's stand up routine(late 70's)really helped bring it to the forefront. When freebasing finally reached the inner cities a half decade later nikkas was on some:ohhh:'this is what Richard was talking about' and it spread like wildfire. The first 10 seconds of this clip:snoop:

The entertainment industry is:demonic:

Did the govt really introduce crack into black neighborhoods or is that an urban legend?

I never researched it but it was a prevailing thought growing up

I had always thought that too but it's easy to see how such a powerful drug would be exploited by drug dealers in the black community. Not:cape:for the white man but you can make the argument that the stiff penalty for crack dealing/possession was the only way they thought they could contain the beast.

http://www.neurosoup.com/history-of-cocaine-use-in-the-united-states/

At the same time, users in South America began to smoke base (coca paste), which is one of the products from which cocaine powder is derived (Siegel, 1987). Coca paste is more concentrated than the powder form. Paste smokers report immediate intoxication, with effects similar to those reported by intravenous users. The first hospital admissions for adverse effects of coca paste smoking were in Peru in 1972 (Jeri, 1984). The practice of smoking coca paste appears to have traveled to other countries via illicit cocaine trafficking corridors.

Drug traffickers in the United States learned of the effects of smoking base, but they confused its preparation with that of cocaine freebase, in which the cocaine alkaloid in cocaine hydrochloride is “freed” from the other components (Siegel, 1982). So it was quite by accident that this new process of “freebase” cocaine was discovered. However, its properties were quite unlike those of either coca paste or cocaine powder. Freebase cocaine does not dissolve easily in the blood or mucous membranes of the nasal passages, but it is readily volatilized and can be effectively smoked. The phenomenon of smoking this freebase form was first reported in California in 1974, and by 1980, its use was reported throughout the United States (Siegel, 1982). Today, chunks of the freebase form are most often known as “rock” or “crack.”

aint Lean essentially liquid heroin?
The issue with lean is this.

Outside of the high sugar content of the candy and sodas....
a cough suppressant...usually codeine....is used to induce the high. Cough suppressants when taken in small doses are harmless more or less. But in higher doses they can give you a high. You can read the many stories of hallucinations and highs caused by DXM, a close family member of Codeine and doesn't require a prescription to buy,. I imagine Codeine is something like it. I've never used the stuff and never had lean.

The big issue is that cough suppressants in higher doses are very hard on the heart because of the mechanism it uses in your brain to supress the cough. Someone who actually uses lean can attest more to how Codeine actually makes you feel, though. I'd like it if they did.

Edit:Forgot to add, cough suppressants are disassociatives.....which can cause a detachment from reality type feeling. This is likely where the name lean comes from. The problem with this once again comes down to mechanisms. You can become so dissociated that your body literally forgets to breathe. Something very similar to this happened to Pimp C. RIP. the stuff is no joke but most nikkas are clueless about what they put in their bodies and how it works.
