Oooh. Got 'eem.
You know...I think the thing that cost Meek more than anything in this whole beef was that he REALLY let people down with his contributions. The line in "Back to Back" that was the most telling was "you getting bodied by a singing nikka", because Drake was essentially pointing out "I'm doing this to you, and YOU'RE supposed to be the battle bar guy."
Every time anyone talks about about Meek coming up, they talk about the young hungry cat in the streets w/ the braids battling on video back in the day. Cats expected this to be wheelhouse, but people forget that street battling does not make you great at making diss tracks. The battle shyt that's hot now is about performance, quotables, and personals.
Fact is...Meek's just really generic lyrically with his disses and doesn't know how to piece together a track to really
clown someone or truly
undress them on wax. "War Pain" was a hard track and it "banged" but it was light on the diss tip. Good beat, a few threats and tough lines, but no
or
or
"Wanna Know" was a chore to listen to and it sank from the jump because of all the build-up. People seem to forget how dramatic Flex was about dropping it and how Flex kept rewinding it and stalling. People were expecting to hear some ETHEROUS bars and personals. Dude doesn't get the "it" you need in shyt like this. He's stuck in his pocket when it comes to that.
