I’d say Meek is more Jigga than Drake is (for a while nikkas tried to say Cole was Nas, Drake was Jay and Kendrick was Pac). I feel like Meek is a modern version of all the 90s New York rappers and he has the authenticity to talk about the street shyt the others can’t. He’s influenced by a lot of people. I hear Beanie in there, Pac in there and some DMX too. And Jay-Z the most. I know Jay was smirking listening to this album because in a lot of songs he was sounding like a 2018 version of Jay.

God's Plan
Songs like 'what's beef" are 20+ years old now. they're open season for being sampled/flipped just like 70's and 80's songs were in the 90's. Every time it happens now it feels weird, reminds me I'm getting old. Then I remember how lame I thought older folks were for complaining about my generation sampling their classics in the 90's and check myself.

So after Juice Wrld song went #1, I pulled my son to the side and played him Nas - The message, then the original Sting song so at least he knows his history. :yeshrug:
on the recent joe budden podcast they praised the flipping the sample exactly the same for giving it a mixtape feel. that part i agree w/ only i dont see it as a good thing. save that for dc5, not ur album. and being that me and meek r the same age i know he's familiar w/ the originals. i dont mind the reusing of samples but the lack of originality. a big part of the reason i cant stand that lil wayne/ swizz beats single.

for instance would something like this be too much to ask for?

Solid well rounded mainstream album.

Checked off all the boxes for the criteria needed to make the label happy and still be authentic to he is as an artist. Showed some growth too in terms of majority with some of the content as well.
