MC Hammer has long held two truths to be self-evident: MC Hammer is 2 legit 2 quit, and you also can’t touch him. That is especially true after MC Hammer started trending on Twitter after discussing the interconnected nature of science and philosophy.

MC Hammer has been destroying those in his Twitter mentions recently over science, but one particular reply has caused the musician to start trending in recent days. After one commenter stated that philosophy is a “flirtation with ideas,” while science is a “commitment to truth,” Hammer taught this commenter a lesson.

In this takedown, MC Hammer is stating that when discussing science, one has to also take into account the person who is creating the science. This came after MC Hammer shared an article entitled “The visibility of philosophy of science in the sciences, 1980-2018.” Hammer has frequently been sharing his views on science, including tweeting an article about how Albert Einstein denounced American racism through science.

In fact, last year Forbes even praised MC Hammer for his commitment to sharing stories about science. Not only, that but MC Hammer’s discussion of science and philosophy has drawn the attention of sites like Newsweek and The Independent. Hammer also shared a look at his reading list, which included several works from Michael Foucault, which several followers suggested for the musician.

MC Hammer currently has over 3.2 million followers on his Twitter account. The musician – whose real name is Stanley Kirk Burrell – is probably most well-known for his 1990 hit song “U Can’t Touch This.” At the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards, “U Can’t Touch This” won Best R&B Song and Best Rap Solo Performance, and the song was the first rap song ever to be nominated for Record of the Year. The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hip Singles & Tracks chart, and the single went gold in the United States.

While the rise of popularity for MC Hammer was huge, the musician filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1996, and was said to be over $13 million in debt. In 1997, MC Hammer began a television ministry entitled M.C. Hammer and Friends after he became an ordained minister, and has officiated the weddings of celebrities like Corey Feldman and Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil. Hammer claimed that the “M.C.” in his name meant “Man of Christ.”

Yet with Hammer’s faith, he still says that he is pro science, pro Creation, and pro God. In another tweet, he has said “In the minds of the infinite they are absolutely compatible.” While MC Hammer’s recent tweeting about science and philosophy has caused him to start trending on Twitter, Hammer has dedicated much of his time on Twitter to spreading awareness of science and STEM.

Even though most of us know MC Hammer for catchy rap-pop songs, impressive dance moves, and Hammer pants, the musician has proven that he contains multitudes in his takedown of those who question the intersection of philosophy and science. When it comes to knocking out these detractors, please Hammer, don’t hurt ‘em.
