Kanye was chasing A BUNCH of white mainstream validation in a way even Pharrell wasn’t.Nah, OutKast never had fans checking Rollingstone or Metacritic to validate their music. Kanye, on the other hand, did. While Kast were critical darlings, a lot of us weren't checking mainstream media for their opinions of the music. Them getting 5 mics in The Source was where it stopped.
With Kanye, a lot of fans started this obsession with everything, but the music. It was about Metacritic, the jnfluence, and trying to push him into GOAT conversations. I remember people saying Kanye was the GOAT producer based on this album, all while bashing Dre for using co-producers. I was like, "Have you looked at the production credits for MBDTF". And it was people that were saying Kanye was a genius for putting all those people on "All of the Lights" and people actually trying to make out who was singing which parts.

Even had Hov trying to show he’s “one of the guys”
Its just nasty work in retrospect
