Of course mix martial arts has been around but it was never marketed in the US. That's why the UFC was formed and why it eventually got banned.

And the UFC stans were the first ones to come out making comparisons to boxing even though boxing has been around for over 100 years. MMA was supposed to be the death of boxing

Not being from the US, I can't accurately give a description of how mma was or wasn't marketed in the US
My main exposure to mma is through mma sites, youtube vids and ppvs. I don't fukk with twitter so I don't catch shyt as fast as other mma fans
I do know it's been marketed heavy as fukk in recent years though. it's trickling into the main main mainstream. even when you see worldstar vids there's mma shyt going on now

I don't think that mma should compare itself to boxing, and vice versa. both can learn from each other. if only boxing allowed striking in the clinch

add in throws from the upper body (like muay thai throws/sweeps but no legs allowed) to score points and it would be amazing

I do hope one day that MMA in the US will allow knees and headstomp/soccer kicks to grounded opponent, so that the fight game can evolve.

Also there's probably maaaaaaaaad fighters that would be world champions, if the rules weren't so limiting. The best headstompers and soccer kickers in the world can't even use those shyts.
