And you definitely don't want to send the message that in 2022, that you can hop the counter, assault a bodega worker, and the worker's only choice is to call the police, AFTER the fact and say "Hey this man attacked me" knowing damn well that the city has been turning a blind eye to a lot of crime since COVID.
If your Pops was working behind that deli counter and holmes jumped over and attacked him and had him hemmed up in the corner over a bag of chips, there's no way you'd be ok with him stabbing dude in self defense and then getting charged for it.
This wasn't "the system" or white supremacy or anything of that nature. It was a dumb dumb getting what he deserved.
