The stress excuse is out the door when NOONE was most stressed in film than Billy Costigan. And it's quite clear he could get it up without problems.

As for the slurs, the main people overcompensating homophobic language were Sullivan, Dingam, and Alec Baldwin's character. All of them susceptible in being gay on the low. shyt, Alec Baldwin even gives a full SPEECH as to how getting married is a good way to show others as to not being gay.

The entire PREMISE of the movie is about people living double to multiple lives concealing their true identity and virtually every single character have alternative personas and secret identities.

I've always thought that Matt Damon's character had been molested by that priest in the diner that Jack's character was fukking with...And that's why Damon's character wanted the place with the view of the golden dome or whatever it was. Which could explain his impotence issues.

- Most guys don't go to "porn theaters" considering porn is an "intimate" experience
- Being impotent doesn't mean one is gay and the pregnancy theme also fits with the impotence

Wow,I just googled "Whitey Bulger bisexual" and i seems to be a common thought he was. More so he was taken advantage of as a kid but still. Gives the theory more credence. Still it is not fleshed out in the movie enough for it even to be consequential. Maybe Sully and Costello were, more of an interesting tidbit then anything central to the story.
