Whitney Houston was arguably more successful than Beyonce, and she wasn't light skinned.
The sad thing most of the women that the media finds attractive all have mixed backgrounds, and I dont mean like 2 generations back. But like mom or grandparent are either white or something else.

She is also arguably one of the best voices to ever do it in modern history. She also was a bit darker but only a shade or so.
