I don't know how to pick...Cronenberg's films win but films inspired by Barker would edge it for me. Plus for me, the best work from either of them is a book by Barker, Mr. B Gone is a piece is mastery. A horror novel that is "possessed" and telling you directly to destroy it before it's too late while giving you the story of how it got to this point...in your hands, with you reading it.

You hold in your hands not a book at all, but a terrifying embodiment of purest evil. Can you feel the electric tingle in your fingers as you are absorbed by the demon Jakabok's tale of his unintentional ascent from the depths of the Inferno? Do you sense the cold dread worming its way into your bloodstream, your sinews, the marrow of your bones as you read more deeply into his earthly education and unspeakable acts? The filth you now grasp has been waiting patiently for you for nearly six hundred years. And now, before you are completely in its thrall, you would do well to follow the foul creature's admonition and destroy this abomination of ink and paper before you turn a single leaf and are lost forever.

Cronenberg has a better grasp on cinema but Barker has a better grasp on horror. :patrice:

Going with Barker because outside of some of the most iconic scenes from Scanners and The Fly I can't say I would even think to name any of Cronenberg's work in a top horror movie list, Barker would be featured as both a director (Hellraiser) and as a creator (Candyman). Also, Nightbreed and Lord Of Illusions (the latter isn't even mentioned in OP, smh) deserve more credit IMO than they're normally given.

Cronenburg fr. That man really the king of body horror. That scene in Videodrome where ol boy gets shot and mutates still one of the wildest things I've seen in a movie.

This is a tough one as Cronenberg played a villain in Nightbreed, one of my favorites. Rawhead Rex... seriously a POS, EAT shyt AND DIE YOU PIG, TOU BLOODY PIG BARKER YOU!!!

He does have Hellraiser and the classic Candyman...that and Nightbreed help win over The Fly, a classic but I was never deep into Scanners.

Barker FTW

The Rawhead Rex story is one of the most fukked up things I've read, if they ever make a proper movie based around that story [I know they made a movie in the 80's never seen i tho..]
