Before I vote, how are we grading barker? Movies inspired by stuff he created or movies he actually directed? Because he didn’t direct Candyman. Or any hellraiser beyond the first one.

Candyman scared the dookie juice outa me cause Im from the Ps and that shyt was in Cabrini Green (i believe)so that shyt had that hood element that made saying "Candyman" a buncha times really real.


And Hellraiser is another horror movie that is among my favorite "movies" like to where I wouldnt even use the term horror for it.

Who you got?

So to me, this is hard to make a direct comparison because Barker is a writer whose work happened to kinda strike gold with its film adaptations (and not to discredit them, because his direction on the first Hellraiser is pretty great for someone relatively untrained in filmmaking) whereas Cronenberg is, while definitely very keen on literature, still a filmmaker first and foremost.

Hellraiser and Candyman are two of my all time favorite movies, but Nightbreed and some of Barker’s other work was wack to me. Cronenberg has five or six movies that I love, and is one of my fav directors, so I would definitely have to pick him in the end.

Barker is one of the greatest horror writers ever though. His short stories i.e. Books of Blood, “The Hellbound Heart” & “The Scarlet Gospels” are all dope as hell and I would definitely encourage everyone to check them out. I most often just listen to audio readings off YouTube.

Going with Cronenberg tho lol. He and Clive are kinda two opposite sides of the same coin. They both look at humanity and wonder why we are the way we are. Clive normally goes into the seductive nature of shyt that trips us up. David looks at the how our bodies are the things that are going to fukk us up. Either our carnal desires or just the fact our bodies aren’t built for the long run. So no matter what you do, your body, this world, will turn on you. Even Videodrome goes “well yeah the media if fukked up and you’re brainwashed by it but look at what it does to your body”

I’m going Cronenberg. The fly is a movie that still fukks with me and I haven’t watched it since I was a kid. Scanners is dope, videodrome is prescient, rabid is very dope.

Still don’t like the brood lol. Seen it twice and just can’t get with it. But the dead zone cancels that out
