this was the first Masta Ace bought and studied

the concept / interludes annoying but the actual songs were fire

@threnody how did you know it was released on that day? is there a website for historical release dates like that?

Nah Copped it when it came out was thinking back to summer 2004 and it popped in my head headed to the wiki and it just so happened to be the 3rd :wow: Had to make a thread!

This and Foreign Exchange.... halfway through college, sped up my maturity. I remember first hearing "Beautiful" and that line about a "Black man claiming his son", and thought: "damn, that's true. Why are we always glorifying the dumb shyt?"

"Good Ol Love" and "Beautiful" were the joints that spread around. Brooklyn Masala got played at a couple house parties. Over the years, my favorite track on the album is definitely "Da Grind."

My only pet peeve - at the time, I thought some of the lyrics/flows were really weak, given how beautiful the beats were. "washed up like a guy in the tub"... Really Ace? That was the best you could come up with?

I remember this album being overhyped on the internet and no were else when it dropped.

It was good to see Ace the legend getting his props after his prime with a dope album....This album even made people forget about that sad battle with BoogieMan.
Yea that battle was embarrassing. He took his L and proceeded to drop dope music afterwards though. Disposable Arts, A Long Hot Summer, and The Show are my favorite albums. I gotta get the rest of his catalog.

This is where Ace started to fall off lyrically, but it didn't matter much then because of how much soul this album had. Da Grind, Soda & Soap, Bklyn Masala, Beautiful were joints you can feel

This thread made me revisit the album. Still sounds great. Lyrics might not always be top notch but the theme of the songs with the beats Still makes it a cohesive album. Like som other poster pointed it out "beautiful" is probably the best way to describe it.

Classic. Personal top 5 for me. Album helped me discover underground hip hop. :blessed: ...if it wasn't for the underground, I would have stopped listening to rap in the ring tone era. Glad that storm passed.

Theme is huge. Another forgotten aspect of great hip hop music.

Masta Ace is barely lyrical on this album, yet he delivered more classic cuts on this album than any hardcore lyricist since 2004.
