According to the police report, officers went to the ticket counter around 9:30 p.m. to investigate a disturbance, with people “becoming aggressive with the Spirit staff and threatening them.”

In widely shared cellphone footage after officers arrived, a group of passengers and Spirit employees gather around, yelling and screaming.

Then a man in a light shirt and slacks takes down a uniformed officer, straddling him on the ground as a screaming woman in pink hovers over both of them.

“Stop! Stop!” she yells as she throws her body onto the men who are intertwined on the ground. “Nooooo! Nooooo!”

“Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God,” says a different woman off camera, about 20 feet away. “Let’s not...”

Two uniformed officers manage to pull the passenger off of the cop and pin him down as bystanders zoom in with their cameras and more police race to the scene.

The report says that the man taking down the officer in the video is Edward Hariston, 41. Investigators say he was arguing with a ticket agent over delays and then escalated matters by reaching over the counter and hitting the worker’s computer keyboard.

When an officer arrived to defuse the situation and remove one of Hariston’s hands from the keyboard, things got more out of control and turned physical, according to the police report.

“We both fell onto the ground and Hariston put one of his arms around my neck in a choke hold and began to squeeze, restricting my airway, making it unable for me to breathe,” the officer wrote. “I began to get dizzy and immediately spotty, as my airflow was restricted, and I was beginning to lose consciousness.”

Hariston was arrested and taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, then transported to the Orange County Jail, held on $50,450 bond.

He is facing one count of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.

Spirit did not immediately respond to the Miami Herald’s request for comment, but a witness to the melee, passenger Marianne Capoverdi, told WESH-Channel 2 in Orlando that before the incident “tensions were very high because we were not feeling like we were getting much information.”

“I was scared,” added passenger Brenda Garrison.”It was really scary.”

What is it about the airport where people geaux crazy????? :lupe:and I'm never flying Spirit....ever

The general enrgy in airports is ….dystopian. I can’t think of a better word. ‘The masses’ are a very very scary group :patrice:

The little shyt makes me weary. Like everyone piling around the doors to board…as if we don’t have assigned seats. Or when you hear that ‘ding’ when we land everyone scrambles feverishly and stands up ….as if we ain’t leaving in order and gon be standing waiting for the next 5 minutes. The weirdness of groups of people keeps me on edge

How do you wake up and decide, ya know, instead of going on that lovely vacation I've been planning for months, I think at the last second I'll call an audible and go for the attempted murder on an officer at the airport route :dead:

From my experience people have zero patience for others, have terrible manners plus a lot of mouth..thats how most public fights between strangers occur.

This. 2020 did a number on folk. It’s like people are hurt —-whether spiritually, financially, something—-so they feel they gotta put on extra. Dare I say there’s a level of Godlessness …a certain level of us vs them and of course everybody else is ‘them’

Sidenote it’s the same enrgy I got seeing people’s :russ: reaction to the submarine situation….oh but that’s different I suppose :patrice:

What a dumb ass, so you gonna be considered an attempted cop killer for this :snoop:
He might legitimately be retarded. There is no end game to putting a police officer in a choke hold. He literally was not thinking.

Has there ever been a fight video where some woman isn’t hysterically screaming in the background.
I actually understand it in this instance. I'd give that poor woman a pass. She is trying to save her intellectually disabled husband from killing himself.

I can understand the frustration. Never worth the consequences though with violence..

I just took a huge trip to Tanzania and we missed our connection due to a delay at LGA.

Airlines have no sympathy. This trip was planned for a year and a half. We eneded up missing two days of it.

Then I got caught up in the east coast lockdown on the way back . Missed two more flights.

Ended up taking a charter bus home to Detroit with a group of random people who were all in thrifty and thrifty was out of cars
