There already is, kinda. The Leviathans are the aliens that the Reapers were based on. They are the ones that started the cycle of extinction. They were first mentioned in "Mass Effect".

Harbinger was the first Reaper, who was also a Leviathan.

man that ending from me3 basically turned me off completly from this franchise. If ME4 does come out i'm prob gonna wait to make sure fans are feeling it instead of buying it off blind optimism

Why should the fan's dictate if you should buy it or not?

They can still do MEs without threats as big as the reapers. A new and improved Cerberus is one, krogans repopulating and fukkin with everybody, new undiscovered relays with new races, and aren't harbinger and the collectors still kicking around?
