I want a new, dope Mass Effect game but I'll get excited about this one when shyt is actually close to being done because it can easily fall into development problems like most Bioware games have in the last decade. For all we know this writer gonna drop off in the middle of the process and they gonna rewrite shyt and here we go again....

The original idea for the Reapers tied into the dark energy subplot from Tali's loyalty mission. Something about, the more organic life forms = the more dark energy = if left unchecked it would wipe out all stars in the universe. So the Reapers would kill everyone in cycles to keep the dark energy in check.
