Mase says he studied Nas, Red, LL and Meth to develop his style, he used to not listen to Biggie because he was a 2Pac fan

Life after death and No Way out were way bigger than Harlem world. How can you be the hottest rapper in the game when you had the third biggest album on your label that year?

Those albums also had way bigger singles.
Honest question. Wasnt No Way Out a Ma$e project anyways?

Didn’t he co-write on life after death? Swear I’ve read/heard that.

This why you can't just look at chart positions and RIAA certs.

Puff album was bigger for a number of reasons, mainly because more super casuals bought it, but nobody that was actually into hip hop thought he was a better rapper than Mase. Nobody was trying to rap like Puff but many borrowed from Mase even a decade later.

No way out was written by a team of dudes including, biggie, jadakiss, mase, black rob etc.

And no Mase didn’t co-write shyt for LAD unless he was featured on it.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Every single rapper on the come up could no longer hack it with just freestyles. Had to do full on original songs. You forgot he had the whole game looking for that melodic rap/r&b hybrid sound
50 Cent did that years ago... The whole mixtape era ending was about using freestyles and other beats so literally every mixtape after that was about OG songs....

But good try

Ok I'm gonna try again... Biggie was DEAD 3 months in... So he wasn't the biggest rapper on the label anymore cause he was dead. So he wasn't really in the contest anymore

Puff wasn't a rapper.. Mase was writing half his shyt and everyone else was writing the other half... Hence Mase being everywhere Puff was, cause he was Puff

So again.. Mase was all they had.. They wasn't getting no new Biggie music after March and Puff wasn't no fukking rapper... Mase was the selling point

The third biggest rapper on his label cannot be the “hottest rapper of the year”

Biggie was the hottest rapper of 1997.

So again… if you have the third biggest album on your own label that year, you cannot be the hottest rapper
