How did it feel :lupe:
Hard to describe. I felt a big pop in my right heel. Felt like the back of my foot disconnected and sort of fell off the rest of my leg. Endorphins kicked in within milliseconds so no pain during the injury and for a good 40 minutes after. In the hospital they tried to get me to walk on it but couldn’t push off at all. After that they gave me xrays and an ultrasound then put the cast on. Doc’s initial assessment was “significant damage” so now I see a specialist on Monday to get an MRI and assess the severity.

It’s way more sore now than when it happened. Honestly there was barely any pain or discomfort after the initial pop. Just zero stability.

I don’t think it’s a complete tear though cuz I can still bend my foot in all directions (paraphrasing what the doctor told me), albeit in a limited way. But...I think I’m done playing sports. Just weights and cardio now. I got flat feet so I’ve had tons of lower extremity injuries and I’m tired of the sit out the season, rehab, get back in shape, shake the rust process. Done that three times before this (knee, shoulder and same knee again). I’m just gonna figure my body can’t handle the stress.

Breh I dunno if I’m ready for that shyt yet. Mentally I’m not ready to be done playing even though my physical performance is quickly deteriorating (even before the injury). I wanna believe I still got a few more good years in me but it’s getting harder to recover after games. Also my kid plays ball and soccer so it’s a bonding thing for the family.

Part of me knows I should think about giving it up cuz I got lots of mileage on my joints and I’m breaking down but I’ve always been stubborn as shyt with regard to not pushing my body farther than it can go. But yeah I wanna still play. Maybe it’s just lazy pickup from here on out. I got a couple rec league championships under my belt so I got nothing to prove haha.

Can’t lie tho, I’m going though a lot of back and forth emotions.

Try swimming and yoga before you completely give up sports, it helps a lot with pain and recovery. I wouldn't recommend doing the yoga stretches that involve bending, twisting or doing crunches because it'll eventually wear out the discs in your spine, but the rest of the stretches are still good. I still wouldn't play with 100% effort if it helps though, just change it up and take it easy out there.

Thanks for the advice breh. Ima try that shyt still. I’m gonna take my recovery really seriously.

And yeah haha going too hard is how I ended up here. I was playing with playoff intensity when the Achilles popped. Lesson learned. :p

I know exactly what you feel breh, I tore my Achilles January 2018 also playing soccer. I just started playing again this summer. I had a full rupture and was able to get in for surgery only four days later. If you can, push for surgery as soon as possible and start the recovery process from there. Actually found a lot of useful tips on AchillesBlog.com.

The first few months are the worst but beyond that it’ll just take a lot of physio. I’d recommend swimming and getting on a stationary bike once you start physio.
