Never heard of this woman until yesterday

Anyway, ain't that about a bytch if her fam is now asking for handouts

Just found this after an internet search

Wow, so the only reason she got some clout in the first place was off a Mickey Mouse medal.
She wasn’t even able to vote for Reagan. I could see Bush supporter maybe, but she was 15-16 when Reagan was elected to his second term
Just because you aren't able to vote for someone doesn't mean you don't support them or their policies. Plenty of political junkies that are 16 and younger. She was appearing at his rallies and his campaign ads. She was at the Republican National Convention in 04.

Retired Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Mary Lou Retton is “fighting for her life,” according to her daughter McKenna Kelley’s Instagram. In her post, Kelley asked for prayers and donations to offset her mother’s medical bills.

In an entry labeled “MaryLouRettonsFight” on the fundraising site Spotfund, Kelley said Retton has been in a hospital intensive care unit for over a week and “has a very rare form of pneumonia.”

Kelley stated her mother is “not able to breathe on her own,” according to the Spotfund page.

Spotfund has verified the fundraiser to CNN.

CNN has reached out to Kelley and USA Gymnastics for comment.

Mary Lou Retton is pictured at Planet Hollywood Times Square on September 12, 2018, in New York City.

Retton became a household name during the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles – winning more medals (5) than any other athlete during those games. Her icon status was solidified when Retton scored perfect scores on the vault and floor routine en route to becoming the first US woman to earn an Olympic gold in the individual all-around event.

Retton won the all-around gold at the 1984 US Championships.

Retton was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1997.

CNN’s Julia Chan contributed to this report.

Hope she pulls through

Sure, and ultimately she did become a republican, but I don’t put too much stock into presidential support when you’re a kid. I guess by that token, I was a Clinton supporter because he played the sax on Arsenio, but I didn’t know shyt about politics as a kid. Plus, a lot of celebrities back then weren’t really speaking out against Reagan. Michael Jackson was at the White House when he was in office, but I wouldn’t call him a Reagan supporter. Muhammad Ali actually endorsed Reagan as well.

Well, if there was any question about it, she showed up at the RNC in 2004, so that should squash any doubt about her leanings. Appearing at the White House and being a part of a campaign trail/appearing in ads is something else. One can be chalked up as an apolitical honor, the other one is active endorsement of a politician and their party. Muhammad Ali has an entire lifetime of speaking against racism, so I won't hold it against him.

Considering how she was opposed to a bill that would protect young girls from sexual predators, she's a piece of shyt regardless.

Oh, I agree with you. I was just questioning specifically the Reagan support given her age. Nothing more, nothing less.

I remember seeing her on all those Wheaties Boxes as a kid. From what I’ve read, she and Carl Lewis were 2 of the biggest stars from the 84’ Olympics in LA. But Mary Lou got the endorsements, partially due to race, but also because Carl came across to many as a smug homosexual.
