i don't understand the concept of 'throwing in the towel' on a series that gets over $700MM a film...

Despite the box office success of those two Amazing Spider-Man movies it has always seemed like Sony was not satisfied with the money they made.
Even when half the Internet shyt on Man of Steel, WB acted like it was the most successful movie to come along in years and were hyped about it. Sony has seemed iffy about the Spidey reboot movies.
