I can't name of good villain from either brand that has come out in the past 15-20 years. :ld:

You usually get a jobber villain created for a one off or used on occasion. We need a bad ass to come through and crush the building.

The same can probably be said about heroes. :patrice:

The biggest problem is that too many writers are focused on making their own little place in history nowadays. So they can create and build up new villains, but once they depart the next writer often ignores them or throws them in the bushes because they want to define themselves, and not rely on the previous guy. Hell, you even have writers now who are so aware of this they just kill off their villains before their run ends so their creations at least can't be fukked up by anyone else.

Shouldn't they go to the big heads and tell them what they have? If I felt I had a good villain I'd go to the heads and tell them what I have and how the character has potential.

But if they are creating villains then it's obvious they're not stand outs if they decide to off them. :manny:

The biggest problem for a new villain (or any new character really) is to make enough impact to have a lasting effect. So unless a writer has a long term plan for a character, and is actually allowed to fully maximize it, it's not easy to achieve this.

It also doesn't help that on Marvel's side a lot of their big events since Civil War mostly involve heroes fighting amongst each other instead of introducing a new world-threatening villain. Like in the past seven years or so the X-Men went from fighting each other (Schism) to fighting the Avengers (AvX) to facing the original X-Men from the past and are currently fighting the Inhumans (Inhumans Vs X-Men). Those have literally been the only major storylines involving the X-Men in years, and where are the villains? Nowhere, outside of those constant temporary alliances with Magneto or whoever.

The REAL real problem is that when DC and marvel do these reboots and resets, they're pretty much forced to introduce traditional rouges again in the new timeline or universe. Thus, you need a darkseid story...an antimonitor story, A joker story, a riddler story, etc, you don't even have time to introduce new.

When they haven't don't that in a while, you can write new foes.

Do we really want a new Villain though??

I mean if a new dude came to Gotham called The Seige a his power was telekinesis and his goal was to take down say...... Bruce Wayne's empire.

What we really care? Or how long would it be till we be like

:francis: Where's the Joker and what is Deathstroke doing right now?:stopitslime::yawn:

Well as a Marvel collecor myself, I honestly don't believe that Marvel needs tocreate new villians. There's tons of them who aren't used or are under utilized as it is.

But they have Thanos coming out in Infinity Wars (he's my personal favorite Marvel Villain) so we'll see how that goes.

They should have brought out Galactus a long TIME AGO though.

@RGM
Regent for marvel has been decent
Decent backstory - whole family was killed in a battle between the avengers and masters of evil ( #277)
so he believes that all super powers can be contained and controlled ( basically by him)

Yea. This whole heroes vs heroes thing is played out now.

It sucks when u think bout it cuz xmen in particular is stuck with that bullshyt and they were laced with great villains in the 80s/90s

Sinister
Stryfe/zero
Apocalypse snd his revolving door of horsmen and dark ryders
Sabretooth
Dark beast
Omega red
John sublime
Reavers
Weapon x scientists/groups
Acolytes
Mojo
Cassandra nova
Nimrod
Galatic threats like: shiar. Brood. Skrulls. The race from whedons run that killed collosus..

And thats not even showing the classics like
Magneto
Mystique
Brother hood of evil mutants
Juggernaut
Sentinels/govt scientists
Hellfire club
Sauron
Shadow king
And long forgotten villains like lucifer

And yet they have fought good guys for the better part of the last ten years. Easily the beat crew or baddies in comix (well batman a close second. Spiderman a fighting third) and no way to use them correctly.

Co-sign. They're the GOAT team in comic history*, but they've been spending more time infighting among themselves and other superheroes on some Watchmen-lite nonsense instead of dealing with actual villains and protecting innocents.

* Okay, so the Justice League is admittedly more iconic. But NOBODY was checking for the Avengers like that until the MCU started popping off.
