did Taekwondo since i was 7, 4th Dan Black Belt but i haven't done anything since i movied about 4 years ago, there's lots of Martial Arts up here but not many good schools and i don't have the time right now with 2 little kids. have done at least some seminars in lots of other stuff, provisonal Black Belt in hapkido, trained for a while in Muay Thai, done a little bit of BJJ probably not even at Blue Belt level yet tho, Philippine Stick Fighting, taught & trained in MMA, done a little bit of Karate. i taught mainly Taekwondo & Hapkido at a school for about 6 years but that stopped obviously when i moved away. have done seminars with Michael Bisping, John Will (great BJJ coach, coaches some of the UFC's best & travels around the world constantly doing seminars) and other masters in other styles, Fari Salievski (coach & head instructor for a few guys in ONE FC and some other MMA promotions).

I'm a traditional guy when it comes to training, i like the structure and goals it sets for you but i do like MMA if it's with a good trainer. one thing i never did was Kung Fu which i would like to try.

as far as fav MMA fighters Cowboy Cerrone is my #1 fav guy right now, obviously as a TKD guy i have to rep for Pettis and Henderson. Overeem was a fav for a while, i just like watching good fights tho really, i have lots of guys i love to watch mainly in UFC i don'tget much time to watch any other fight promos and i don't find many of them to be that good (Bellator is my prime example)

Great to see a Taekwondo representative, I see TKD cats put people out in street fights, if you have the time tell us more about the combat side of TKD

How did your belt test went

Passed :takedat:. But was sore for a week. Finished the test fatigued and defending all different type of chokes in the dark with music on so you could only rely on reflex.

Only yellow belt but feels much better than walking around with that white belt:blessed:.

Gotta get back on my shin and elbow conditioning grizzle, :mjcry:.

Starting in Jan I will be encompassing more sparring and jitsu training with the Krav, trying to stay focused and cut back on my vices, it has helped tremendously so far as I rarely gamble anymore almost completely done smoking and stopped drinking as much.:skip:

I also need to start working out more at home, I'm in the best shape I have been since a teenager now but could definitely use more strength in my upper legs and core.

I think 2016 might just be a wonderful year :wow:

Congratulations that's the beauty of Martial Arts :mjcry:, I cut back on Newports and drinking also dare I say I quit, and earning a promotion of belt rank is satisfying, because you earned that belt, The Weight Lifting will help a lot, I train Judo 3x a week and weight lifting 4x and the strength helps me out against higher belts

Great to see a Taekwondo representative, I see TKD cats put people out in street fights, if you have the time tell us more about the combat side of TKD

as far as self defense goes i think it comes down to your instructor. i've seen some HORRIBLE "self defense" from TKD schools, lots of bullshyt from people who have never been in or even seen real life situations. TKD can be a great self defense martial art but you have to know hoe & when to apply techniques. my first 2 instructors were a CO & an ex cop respectively so they knew some more realistic scenarios than a lot of traditional Martial Artists.

combat - the tournament/sport side of TKD can be pretty exciting, lots of KO's, head kicks, jumping, spinning kicks, but at the very elite level it can also be a bit boring, high level black belts are very aware of counter attacks and it ends up at a stalemate a lot of the time, that's why it hasn't been very popular at the Olympics the last few times. there are a lot of fighters in MMA that are based on TKD or have a black belt in TKD, partly because it was the most popular Martial Art in the world during the 90s and partly because it doesn't take that long to get your BB in TKD (usually around 3-4 years but you do see belt factories that just pump grades out in no time just to get students & money). TKD is the best kicking Martial Art, so if you have an MMA fighter who can kick the shyt out of things, when they transfer that to kicking the legs, that can be devastating in MMA (look at Benson Henderson). Anthony Pettis is the perfect example of flashy, exciting TKD tricks trasnsposed into MMA.

some cool TKD videos i've seen

this one is the guy showing & trying to figure out some practical applications of various poomsae/kata techniques. most people say kata isn't useful for anything but there are practical applications & thy def used to use these types of techniques in combat.

this one is some self defense/combat techniques. most GOOD TKD instructors especially in Korea are also Black Belts in Hapkido which is one of Korea's lesser known Martial Arts, it is one of the first "mixed martial arts" in that it hasall the techniques of TKD as well as joint locks, control techniques, many techniques similar to BJJ (arm bars, Kimura type locks, etc) and plenty of hand techniques which most people think TKD lacks a lot of (i disagree).

some of it is great, some of it may be a bit far fetched but the armed forces and police in Korea are all trained in Hapkido and use it in combat situations.

TKD was the craze in the late 80's, I wanted to do it put i couldn't afford it so I had to settle for Kenpo Karate:mjcry:, but Ernie Reyes Jr was the main reason in the 80;'s that kids wanted to do TKD
