You a fighter for your Art or MMA let us know about your competition.

Drop historical articles on your Art or any art you like, post you tube videos on techniques etc.

Currently I'm a Judoka, Judo is what I choose for Self Defense, I'm a grappler. I have some experience in Kenpo Karate when I was younger, I took wrestling classes at a MMA gym few years ago and in the past last two years I took boxing and Muay Thai.

Judo is going to be my base self defense I'm in this for the long run.

Why I choose Judo, easy Judo is bad ass, Judo training is tough, I love the powerful grappling throws, Take downs, Chokes, Submissions and Newaza

Boxing is a great discipline and art, I was training in boxing a few months years ago and I learned so much, hips and footwork, lot of people don't know a good boxer can set the average man up with just his foot work, have you all crossed up, stumbling over their own foot, get them off balance and then you pop, pop, pop, crack!

if ure training for one on one self defense...Brazilian Jiujitsu is the only way to go. If u had to choose one art, amongst "singluar" styles, BJJ is the only way to fly. Its been proven, and its pretty common knowledge amongst practicing martial artists (with common sense). Obviously cross training in striking is parmaount...and the combination is always the best. Start with BJJ..learn boxing...and learn wrestling takedowns to get the fight where u want it to go. The end

Master the art of boxing first, study it also, boxing teaches you vision and awareness, teach you how to read your opponents body, boxing can end a fight before it begins, bomb first, study 52 hand blocks also.

Once you comfortable and you want to add, add wrestling, folkstyle, catch wrestling, Submission Wrestling, learn how to take the fight to the ground, different takedowns, how to defend takedowns, how to control a person on the ground, watch videos on Jordan Borroughs and MMA stars Ben Askren and Cole Konrad, or submission wrestler Josh Barnett who catch wrestling submitted one of the Gracies in metamoris

I have respect for BJJ but I don't think is the only way, BJJ are assassins in the submission and choke game but are flawed in takedowns and throws, they have a few takedowns though but what BJJ doing it's the same in Kosen Judo, that's what Grandmaster Carlos and Helio Gracie learned

But as a Judoka, I'm going to cross trained with BJJ because they are badasses

Grandmaster Kano Jigoro ~ Creator of Judo

To name his system, Kanō revived a term that Terada Kan'emon, the fifth headmaster of the Kitō-ryū, had adopted when he founded his own style, the Jikishin-ryū: "jūdō". The name combined the characters (柔?), meaning "pliancy", and , which is literally "The Way", but figuratively meaning method.

From a technical standpoint, Kanō combined the throwing techniques of the Kitō-ryū and the choking and pinning techniques of the Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū. As such, judo's Koshiki no Kata preserves the traditional forms of the Kitō-ryū with only minor differences from the mainline tradition. Similarly, many of the techniques (but not the forms) of the Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū are preserved in the Kime no Kata.

Initially, Kanō borrowed ideas from everywhere. As he wrote in 1898, "By taking together all the good points I had learned of the various schools and adding thereto my own inventions and discoveries, I devised a new system for physical culture and moral training as well as for winning contests."However, after judo was introduced into the Japanese public schools, a process that took place between 1906 and 1917, there was increasing standardization of kata and tournament technique.
