Both black men and women are victims of White Supremacy and a part of this is being made to believe in a European standard of beauty, where light=beautiful and dark=ugly. Obviously, as beauty is more of a measurement of a woman's worth than it is of a man's, this affects black women more than it does black men, even though it still affects them to a degree. Therefore black women are taught to believe that light skinned girls are prettier than dark skinned girls, which is reinforced when some black men, who are also taught this, choose light skinned girls over dark skinned girls. This leaves the self-hating woman with 2 options: bleach your skin or (literally) breed out the 'dark skin', as they may believe that they're setting up their children-daughters, especially- to have an easier life than they did. It's pretty messed up logic but they're pretty messed up people.
