Gus the better villain all day long. It's not about "who never really lost" because any story can be written where a character never loses. Gus had a hell of a lot more to him than Marlo. If they were in the same show Marlo would have been small time compared to Gus. And bodied easily if he got in Gus's way. Marlo wouldn't have even found Gus.

Why is this even a thread?

OP wants it to be one way...

But it's the other way...

stringer bell vs Gus: who was the better jeckyl and hyde? Gus. McNulty knew from the jump that Stringer wasn't clean.

Hank Shraeder vs Lester Freemon: who was the better detective? Lester. Follow the money... :wow:

Walt vs Mcnulty: who was the better lead character? Don't make me choose :sadcam: ...Walt the GAWD, but it's close :whew:

Mike vs Chris: who was the better hitman? Gotta go Mike. It's tough to view Chris without factoring in Snoop. If it was Chris AND Snoop vs. Mike, then they'd take it.

Saul Goodman vs Clay Davis: who was the funniest crooked character? Saul had quotables for days, but Clay Davis owns

Sort of an unfair contest because Breaking Bad was far less realistic than The Wire.

For example as dangerous as Chris was he was just regular muscle. Mike on the other hand was on some Splinter Cell/Jack Bauer shyt.

the cops had no idea who gus fring really was till after he died

marlo was a low level street dude cant compare

Like someone said, Gus' shyt was international while Marlo was trying to get the West Side of Baltimore and was threatened by one dude walking around with a shotgun.

Cops knew who Marlo was, but corruption and budget cuts meant the cops couldn't really go after him.

Gus was running a franchise chicken place, serving as a trustee at hospitals, having cookouts with the head of the local DEA while flooding the SW US with meth with distribution set up in Europe and took out a cartel without anyone knowing a thing. :wow:

I picked Gus, but it wasn't like Marlo was trying to keep his dealings hidden. He wanted his name out there. He wanted his name to have dudes shook. He's more like Walt than Gus in that regard.

Difference is, The Wire is mainly based off of real events, and real people that actually existed in Baltimore. Breaking Bad is completely fabricated. If the creators of The Wire wanted to make Marlo a stealth, international drug kingpin, they could have done it; but it would've gone against everything the show was trying to do, which was paint a REAL picture of life in Baltimore.
